Please read these instructions carefully before using your ONE FLOW FVC SCREEN.
The ONE FLOW FVC SCREEN uses the ERS 93 predicted values in patients of 18 years of age and older.
The Knudson predicted values are used for patients aged 9 years to 18 years of age.
Start up
Inserting batteries:
1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the ONE FLOW FVC SCREEN.
2. Insert 4 1.5 volt LR03 AAA alkaline batteries in the battery compartment, making sure the + and the - are lined up correctly. Close the battery compartment.
3. Ensure that the mouthpiece tube is pushed fully home into the instrument before use.
MEASUREMENTS (WITHOUT PREDICTED VALUES)
1. Press On/Off button to turn on
2. Check correct operation of the display and LEDs.
3. Press the START button.
4. A flashing standby message (---) indicates that you must wait and that the instrument is to be held in a still, horizontal position.
5. When the Go message is displayed, followed by 2 beeps, you have 10 seconds to make a forced expiration.
6. Breathe in deeply with your chin up and your mouth open.
- Hold your instrument in both hands in a still, horizontal position.
- Breathe out as hard as you can for as long as you can until you feel that your lungs are totally empty
7. By pressing SELECT you can then read either your PEF, FEV1, FVC or FEV1/FVC Ratio
The flashing LED indicates the selection.
- To make another measurement, press the START button again and follow steps 4-7 above.
- When possible, make 3 measurements, resting between each measurement.
- After you have completed the test, press BEST button to see the highest PEF, FEV1, FVC and FEV1/FVC measurements made in that test.
- Switch the instrument off by pressing the ON / OFF button for 2 seconds.
- Should you forget, the instrument will switch itself off automatically

MEASUREMENTS (WITH PREDICTED VALUES)
1. Press ON/Off button to switch One Flow unit on.
2. Press the D or OK button to enter the patient parameters.
3. Use D or OK button to change between M (Male) or F (Female).
4. Press OK button when sex is correct.
5. Use the D button to increase the age or the OK button to decrease the age by 5 year increments for patients over 20 or by 1 year for patient under 20. Maximum age for which predicted values available is 70 years. Minimum age is 9 years old.
6. Press OK button when age is correct.
7. Use the D button to increase the height or the button to decrease the height by 5 cm increments. Maximum height 200 cm., minimum height 130 cm.
8. Press OK button when height is correct.
9. Your selections of sex, age and height of the patient will now flash.
10. If there is an error in any of the sex, height or age parameters, press the D or OK or button and re-enter all these parameters again.
11. If the parameters are correct, press the START button.
12. A flashing standby message (---) indicates that you must wait and that the instrument is to be held in a still, horizontal position.
13. When the Go message is displayed, followed by 2 beeps
14. Breathe in deeply with your chin up and your mouth open
- Hold your instrument in both hands in a still, horizontal position.
- Breathe out as hard as you can for as long as you can until you feel that your lungs are totally empty
15. A tone indicates the end of the measurement.
16. You can then select and read your PEF, FEV1 or FVC measurement, or FEV1/FVC ratio on the display by pressing the SELECT button. You will see the actual measurement and the % predicted measurement. The % predicted measurement is indicated by â??Pâ?? after the measurement. See examples below:

- To make another measurement, press the START button again and follow steps 12-16 above.
- When possible, make 3 measurements, resting between each measurement.
- After you have completed the test, press BEST button to see the highest PEF, FEV1, FVC and FEV1/FVC measurements together with the % predicted values made in that test.
- Switch the instrument off by pressing the ON / OFF button for 2 seconds.
- Should you forget, the instrument will switch itself off automatically
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS FOR USE
- This instrument is for monitoring purposes only
- We advise you to make regular visits to your doctor, especially in the event of unusual variations in the measurements.
- After use, it is advisable to give a slight pull on the mouthpiece tube about 1cm out of the instrument. For easy removal and insertion of the mouthpiece tube, liquid paraffin or pure petroleum jelly may be used to lubricate the joints. Do not use any other substance for lubrication.
- The mouthpiece tube is specific to this ONE FLOW FVC SCREEN and is not compatible with other instruments in the ONE FLOW range. A serial number is engraved on the mouthpiece and matches the last 5 digits of the serial number on the back of the ONE FLOW FVC SCREEN instrument. Only the mouthpiece tube with the same serial number as the instrument should be used.
- Remove batteries if the instrument is not to be used for more than one month.
- This instrument is not delivered sterile.
- This instrument has an internal electric power supply.
- This instrument is not suitable for use in the presence of an anaesthetic mixture inflammable in contact with air, oxygen, or nitrous oxide.
- This instrument operates in a continuous mode.
